Lewis Hamilton’s advice to a young Lando Norris has resurfaced following the McLaren driver’s maiden Formula 1 drivers’ championship triumph.

“Never give up, keep pushing. Wish you all the best.”

Speaking at the 2014 Autosport Awards, the then-Mercedes driver, who had just won his second drivers’ title, was asked to offer advice to several young talents, including Norris. Hamilton told the group how he had been met with many doubts on his journey to success, before stressing the importance of self-belief.

“A lot of people said I wasn’t good enough, that I wasn’t going to get there. There were a lot of… that was a lot of teachers, whoever it may be, you have to just ignore them,” he said.

“The more belief you have in yourself, the only person who has to believe in you is yourself. Never give up, keep pushing. Wish you all the best,” Hamilton added.

At the time of the event, Norris had just won the CIK-FIA World Championship in the KF class with Ricky Flynn Motorsport. The then-14-year-old was also the youngest karting world champion in that category.

Fast forward to 2025, and Norris has now claimed his first F1 drivers’ championship title, in a grid that included several elite drivers, including Hamilton.
