Max Verstappen has issued his first reaction after Christian Horner's sacking as team boss of Red Bull Racing. Or actually, the reigning world champion did not mentioned the Brit - but he is looking forward to cooperating with successor Laurent Mekies.

This weekend will be a home game for Verstappen, who was born in Belgium. On the iconic circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, he is hunting for a third victory of the season.

"Spa is a classic and always my favourite track on the calendar; a very old school circuit where you have to do everything right to get a good lap."

"I enjoy the high-speed corners such as Eau Rouge, the layout which is different to other circuits and elevation changes that make the track more of a challenge to drive."

In Belgium, Verstappen hopes to perform better than in Great Britain. "Silverstone wasn’t our best performance but it was a promising step to put it on Pole in Qualifying."

Verstappen looks forward to working with Mekies

Following the race at Silverstone, Horner was sidelined. "I was back at the factory last week to spend some time in the sim with the Team and I’m looking forward to working closely with Laurent," is all he wants to say about that now.

He is much more looking forward to the race on Sunday. "There is always huge support in Belgium from the Orange Army and it is like a second home race for me, so I will be back wearing the Orange Lion helmet and my special cap and boots."
