A little holiday mishap for Kimi Antonelli: the Italian driver ran out of fuel while riding his jet ski, with two of his friends coming to his rescue — and seizing the chance to tease him in good fun.
Kimi Antonelli, like the other 19 drivers on the grid, is enjoying his first summer break since becoming a full-time Formula 1 driver this year thanks to Mercedes, with Toto Wolff backing him strongly despite his very young age.
So far, the Italian driver has had a debut season of ups and downs, with highlights including a pole position in the Miami GP sprint qualifying and the first podium of his career in Canada, but his head-to-head with George Russell has been clearly in his teammate’s favour.
His standings have also been affected by two retirements due to technical issues in Imola and Spain, as well as the zero points scored at the start of the Austrian GP following a collision with Max Verstappen.
Moreover, Kimi is coming off a lacklustre run of results in recent weeks, having finished 16th in both the Silverstone and Spa Grands Prix, before getting back into the points in Hungary with a tenth-place finish.
Antonelli runs out of fuel
Even on holiday, though, Kimi seems to have run into a small “technical” issue. While out on his jet ski, the Italian ran out of fuel, with some of his friends quickly coming to his rescue — and taking the opportunity to playfully poke fun at him.
The scene was later reshared on social media by one of his friends, who tagged the Mercedes driver writing, “POV: giving Kimi Antonelli a ride because he ran out of fuel.”
