We all know Max Verstappen owns his own private jet, which he uses to travel around the world both on race weekends and off. But what about Lewis Hamilton?

In 2013, during his first year with Mercedes, the seven-time world champion (who at that time had won only one title in 2008 with McLaren) purchased a Bombardier Challenger 605 for 29 million dollars.

The aircraft is a large, twin-engine business jet boasting a range of approximately 4,000 nautical miles and a cruising speed near 850 kph, with seating for 9 up to 19 passengers.

Hamilton’s jet stood out with its eye-catching cherry-red paint and a lavish interior tailored to his preferences, featuring a king-size bed, a fully equipped kitchen and dining space, a bathroom, state-of-the-art entertainment systems, high-speed Wi-Fi, and comfortable lounge-style seating.

Why did Hamilton let go of his private jet?

This jet enabled Hamilton to travel privately and comfortably to races and events across the globe. The registration number was also personalized, featuring his full name—Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton—abbreviated as G-LCDH.

However, despite its luxury and convenience, private jets have a substantial environmental footprint, which led Hamilton to sell the aircraft in 2019 as part of his efforts to lower his carbon emissions and focus on sustainability.

Since then, Hamilton has been traveling around the world using chartered or commercial flights.
