Many stories have been left in the wake of the enthralling, chaotic and action-packed race at Imola. GPblog brings you the best ones in its daily round-up: F1 Today.
George Russell dubbed McLaren as favourites to take the win at Imola. However, Max Verstappen's killer instincts and Red Bull's pace surprised not only pundits and fans, but also the Mercedes driver. Russell knows it all too well having battled the Dutchman on numerous occasions, you just can't give Verstappen a gap.
"If you leave the door open, you know Max is gonna take it. And, it was. The door was open and he took it," said Russell to media including GPblog after the race in Imola.
Red Bull's and Max Verstappen's win at Imola not as big of asurprise for team principal Christian Horner, as McLaren's lack of performance. Speaking to media like GPblog after the race, Horner admits to not being surprised by Red Bull's pace, but rather by McLaren's lack thereof.
"We were sort of more surprised about McLaren's probably lack of performance."
"We definitely got the car into a very good window yesterday. Max was certainly very positive about the balance and being able to lean on the rear of the car."
"So that was certainly a positive and then that carried through it and he certainly felt taking that into the race would just [put the car] in a better balance window. So that proved to be the case."
