In Formula 1, there are many candidates to join the sport, but in Formula E, the enthusiasm is somewhat less. For example, the McLaren team is quitting and no party has come forward who wanted to take over the team. Maserati seemed to face the same fate, but a very well-known manufacturer wants to save this team from ruin.

Citroën is distinctly in the market to replace Maserati MSG, both brands from the Stellantis stable. An official confirmation of the takeover is still missing, as reported to GPblog. But insiders are more than seriously considering that Citroën will be on the FE-grid this coming season.

With Citroën, an illustrious name is likely to return to the top of motor sports. In rally sports, the French brand still has the most world championships to its name, even though it has not been active in this championship since 2019. Citroën was never active in Formula 1 and there is no talk of that either. But Formula E is already a surprising choice, because the French have no history in formula cars.

Vergne and Cassidy in the cars?

The names of the two drivers of the team also seem to have leaked. It's about Nick Cassidy (ex-Jaguar) and Jean-Eric Vergne, former driver of Toro Rosso from the Red Bull family. Last season, the two-time champion in Formula E competed for DS Penske.

Formula E will in any case breathe a sigh of relief if Citroën replaces the Maserati team, because the championship cannot afford a large-scale departure of teams.

Especially after the criticism of recent years, in which the so-called platoon racing sometimes led to strange races. It was often of great benefits to not lead the race, something that goes against a driver's nature.
