With the first practice session behind them, the cars return to the Hungaroring for the second practice session.
FP2 will be crucial for teams and drivers to understand how the cars perform in qualifying and, more importantly, race simulations—although Sunday’s weather forecasts could still have an impact.
As usual, drivers will first focus on qualifying laps in the opening part of the session, then gather crucial data on race pace to help teams devise the best strategies for the race and monitor tire degradation.
Additionally, while drivers used the first session mainly to familiarize themselves with the track limits and their cars, FP2 will be more intense, with the cars pushed closer to their limits.
Weather is still an important factor this weekend, as rain—just like at Silverstone and Spa—could disrupt team strategies on Saturday and especially Sunday, with a high chance of another rain-affected race.
To find out what the Hungarian weekend has in store, all that’s left is to wait for the first green light. FP2 will start at 17:00, and as always, GPBlog will provide live coverage with our real-time commentary.
An hour before the second free practice session, Aston Martin have announced that Alonso will, as expected, be driving the AMR25 for the second free practice session in Budapest.
The team's statement reads: "He chose to sit out the opening practice session to limit his time in the car as he manages a muscular injury in his back."
"Having undergone further treatment this morning and medically cleared by the FIA, Fernando will be back in the AMR25 alongside Lance Stroll."
