The McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have shown once again that they are the team to beat this weekend.
FP1 saw George Russell and Max Verstappen lock out the top two positions to show Mercedes and a newly-upgraded Red Bull would bring the fight to McLaren, with Piastri rounding out the top three. McLaren junior driver Alex Dunne impressed hugely, driving instead of Norris to take a fine P4.
However, in FP2, Norris got back behind the wheel, and he led a McLaren one-two come the end of proceedings on Friday to highlight the British team's status as the team to beat, with Piastri and Verstappen rounding out the top three.
In qualifying, Lando Norris took a dominant pole position from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and his teammate Oscar Piastri. A late spin from Pierre Gasly thwarted some final Q3 efforts, however Norris' lap was doubtlessly blistering.
The Red Bull Ring has been a happy hunting ground for Max Verstappen in his time in F1, taking four Austrian Grand Prix victories, along with a Styrian Grand Prix win in 2021.
As a result, a sixth win in Spielberg is on the cards for the Dutchman in front of hundreds of 'Orange Army' fans. The chance is there to add to his tally, although the Dutchman is starting from seventh place. Can he bounce back after a difficult qualifying session? We'll find out.
