Rally champ Kalle Rovanperä targets "highest level" in single-seaters

World Rally Champion Kalle Rovanperä is set to join Japanese Super Formula with Toyota next season, making the switch to single-seater racing in hopes of competing at the "highest level."

The Finnish rally driver expressed interest in jumping through the single-seater categories, starting with Super Formula, then working his way towards Formula 2 and hopefully Formula 1.

He told DirtFish: "Well, obviously at this point, I just know my next few years’ plans. I know we will go Super Formula, and after this, we will work towards the next category step, which would be Formula 2, and we will see how everything goes.

"I cannot tell you now which will be my ultimate goal. I have told you it’s the highest level. Formula 1 is the highest level, but obviously there are so many cool series and events in circuit racing.

James Vowles: Carlos Sainz's Baku podium gave Williams' a "boost"

James Vowles' "emotional" response to Carlos Sainz's maiden podium for Williams in Baku, claiming the result is a "boost that drives a team."

Vowles said: "I’m incredibly proud of Williams because it’s a team that has such a fighting passion and spirit inside it, but it was just surviving for so many years.

"The reward wasn’t just seeing the mechanics and Carlos and Alex, who was right by my side for the podium.

"It’s a boost that drives a team really far forward. It’s belief, it’s not my words anymore that are required. They can see it, breathe it, live it at the same time."

'Piastri sets sights on Ferrari'

Piastri is in first place in the drivers' standings with a 22-point lead over his nearest rival, Lando Norris.

There are six rounds to go, and the title battle is heating up ahead of the United States Grand Prix next time out.

Meanwhile, Swiss newspaper Blick has reported that the McLaren driver is considering a switch to Ferrari.

This news comes after the Singapore Grand Prix, where the two McLaren drivers made contact on Lap 1 with Piastri announcing his frustration at McLaren's failure to swap places with Lando Norris, who forced the Australian to go wide and yield position.

Lawson compares himself to Verstappen

Lawson has endured a difficult first full season in Formula 1 after being demoted from Red Bull after two races.

The New Zealander didn't score a point in Australia and China before returning to Racing Bulls, as Yuki Tsunoda replaced him.

It was a difficult time for Lawson, being unable to get out of Q1 at both events as well.

The Kiwi explained his time alongside Verstappen allowed him to learn a lot despite the results.

Lawson told Automoto.it"I've only raced in two races as his teammate, but even just seeing him from afar tells you a lot.

"All the teams share data that others can see. Basic information, GPS. I've been comparing myself to Max for a few years now, and it's impressive to see what he does.

"He's simply very fast, very consistent, very comfortable with the car."
