Gresini Racing rider Fermin Aldeguer seemed in good spirits following a hospitalisation to treat a broken leg which he sustained during a pre-season training session at the Aspar Circuit in Valencia.

Following an impressive rookie campaign which saw the 20-year-old take victory in Indonesia along with podiums in France and Austria, expectations were running high ahead of Aldeguer's second campaign in the premier class, but hopes of closing the gap to his teammate Alex Marquez have already taken a rather large knock in pre-season.

The rider from Murcia suffered a broken femur, a very serious injury, and seems unlikely to be able to reach full fitness in time for the season opener in Buriram just six weeks from now.

It's not the news the Gresini team wanted to hear, but the only saving grace from the situation is the fact that Aldeguer does still have a few weeks to recover.

"The femur surgery was successfully completed," read an official statement from the team on X, "Now it's time to rest. We will provide more information in the coming days."

So far not a lot of information has been provided, such as X-rays or a window of recovery, however the young Spanish rider has taken to social media to let fans know that he is in good spirits on his road to recovery.

If Aldeguer is unable to take part in Sepang testing or the season opener in Thailand, it may open the chance for Ducati test riders to get some more MotoGP track time.

At the tail end of the 2025 season, Nicolo Bulega replaced Marc Marquez after his Mandalika injury. The Italian managed to score points on the factory Ducati with very little experience in the premier class - and that coming after a season-long battle with Pramac's newly signed Toprak Razgatlioglu.

For now, the Spaniard remains hospitalised, but as we have seen from riders like Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin in recent seasons, MotoGP riders often push themselves to recover very quickly.
