Adrian Newey's signing for Aston Martin has delivered more than expected. Of course the team relies on the acclaimed designer to bring more performance to its cars, but that is not the entire extent of the Briton's contribution to the Silverstone-based outfit.
“In all the things that were explained to me in 2022, I was never told that Adrian Newey was going to be signed. He wasn't on the market at that time," said Pedro de la Rosa, Aston Martin's Team Ambassador, to SoyMotor.

Newey's mere presence serves as rival F1 teams' staff poacher

When speaking about the impact Newey's had on the rather young team, the Spaniard says: “The change is tremendous. Since the announcement that Newey was coming to us, there has been a complete shift."
"More people want to come and work at Aston Martin, from all the teams and especially from the universities. It's something that no one had thought could happen, but it's happening because young engineers want to work with talented people to learn quicker.”

Newey is the best way to find 'the next Newey'

De la Rosa then pointed to a very specific and up until now, undiscovered upside to having Newey in Aston Martin's ranks. "There's a spectacular engineering market in England," he said.
"Because practically all the world's teams are within a 100-kilometer radius. Attracting talent is very important, and having Adrian has a pull, an inspirational effect on the new generations, on all those engineers who want to be Formula 1 engineers and who want to work with Newey to learn from him.”
“That's something you sometimes don't appreciate. We always look to Adrian Newey as the figure who makes winning cars, but the new generation of Neweys who want to work with him is very important to us, because they will be the future of Aston Martin," the Spaniard concluded.
