Fernando Alonso provided an update on his health after suffering a back injury that forced him to miss FP1 in Hungary.
Fernando Alonso didn’t get off to an ideal start this weekend in Hungary. The Aston Martin driver suffered a muscular injury in his lower back, as confirmed by the team, which forced him to sit out FP1 and hand the wheel over to Felipe Drugovich.
The Asturian then returned to the car in the afternoon, finishing the day in fifth place, just behind teammate Lance Stroll.
Speaking about his health at the end of the day, the two-time world champion said: ''It's the same as yesterday and it's gonna be like this the whole weekend.''
''I have a small injury on my muscle at the back on the lumbar area and I need some rest. The summer break is coming so it's another two days of managing the the comfort on the seat.''
Alonso stated that he has adopted some measures to ease the pain in his back: ''We found different solutions yesterday with air pads and other things that they are working fine. Today I had no pain in FP2 so that's positive.''
Finally Fernando added: ''We did an MRI last week just to check properly and we saw a small, small injury on the muscle.''
''Obviously if you are a normal person you will sit a little bit for two weeks, but I think it is manageable. I don't have pain in the car which is the most important thing.''
Overall, it was a positive day for Aston Martin and the Spaniard, who ultimately hopes to reach Q3 in Qualifying and keep up the positive momentum from recent races.
