In the last moments of qualifying, Isack Hadjar, who'd so far been having a strong qualifying session made a mistake that could have tough consequences for his Canadian GP hopes. Carlos Sainz was on a flying lap, and after he made his way through the sequence of corners T3, T4, T5, he approached T6 with Hadjar going slow on the racing line.
As a result the Williams driver had to take avoiding action, leaving him to finish P17, thus eliminated from the following part of qualifying. "Massive impeding from the RB. Massive," was Sainz' reaction to the incident.
Hadjar, though, was under the impression that the Spaniard had aborted the lap, which led to the incident in the first place. The Stewards will investigate the potential impeeding after the session. Should the Racing Bulls rookie be found guilty, he faces a 3-place grid drop for tomorrow's race.
