Andrea Kimi Antonelli managed to claim his first ever pole position in F1, for the Sprint of the Miami Grand Prix. The young Italian was over the moon with the result. He will now also be the youngest driver and the first teenager to start a session from pole position.
"It was a very intense qualifying. I felt very good since practice and felt confident going into qualifying," the young Mercedes driver began immediately after getting out of his car in the state of Florida.
Antonelli was clearly satisfied with his lap. "The last lap was mighty. I put everything together. I'm really happy to get the first pole."
What does he expect from the Sprint? "Tomorrow will be nice to start on the front row. It will be a bit of a different feeling but I can't wait for tomorrow to see what we can do in the Sprint and in qualifying."
Oscar Piastri will line up alongside Antonelli, while Lando Norris and Max Verstappen will share the second row of the grid on Saturday in Miami.
