Kimi Antonelli is the youngest driver currently on the Formula 1 grid. He is only 18 years old and already driving for Mercedes. During the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, he spoke about his team.
Antonelli placed 10th at the Hungaroring. His teammate, Russell, placed third. GPBlog asked him how Mercedes team principal and CEO, Toto Wolff, reacted to the first half of the season and also how George Russell has been as the senior driver alongside him.
To that he responded, "George has done an incredible first half of the season. He got the podium today, so big congratulations to him."
Russell has made it onto six podiums this season and has won once, which was at the Canadian Grand Prix.
About his season so far, Antonelli said, "It's been good, it's been strong, and it's been tough and especially for me, it's been good because I always try to push myself further in order to try and match him."
After Antonelli made the podium in Miami, he became the third youngest Formula 1 driver in it's history to make the podium. Coming after Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll.
He continued, "It's a really good benchmark, and Toto has been really supportive. He expected that there would be some tough moments, especially for me at this stage of the season."
"He's always been very supportive, and he was also happy to see that the pace was coming back this weekend. He knows that things are going to click and everything is going to come together, then we are going to be able to show the full potential."
