Aston Martin backs Alonso's perfect exit plans: 'We all dream of that'
Aston Martin team boss Andy Cowell understands Fernando Alonso's aim to retire from Formula 1 on a high.

During the team representatives' press conference, Cowell was asked about when Alonso might retire from Formula 1.
The Spaniard explained that if things don’t go well in 2026, he may choose to stay in the sport for longer.
"I think that’s linked to—we all want to finish on a high. He’d like to finish his driving career winning races, doing well in races," the Aston Martin CEO and team boss began in Singapore.
"So I think that’s what that’s linked to. He’s a huge part of the team.
"Really useful to have him on board, and Lance this year and into next year, providing guidance on what’s important for the ’26 car, work in the DIL sim and car configuration work and so on. But yeah, I think it comes back to that.
"Last race for Fernando, top step of the podium—that’s what we all dream of," he concluded.
Alonso outlines when he plans to retire
The two-time world champion has now spent more than two decades in Formula 1. Talking to Spanish outlet AS, Alonso outlined his perfect exit plan.
"I have to consider it myself. If the car goes badly, there's a chance I'll stay for another year to finish on a positive note. If the car goes well, 2026 will probably be my last year."

So far, the first day in Singapore went well for the Spanish driver. Alonso topped FP1, and then finished fourth in the second session of the day.
