Fernando Alonso will not be in action during the first free practice for the Grand Prix of Hungary. The Spaniard has suffered an injury, and Mike Krack explained how the team is doing everything to still get Alonso into action in Budapest.
On Friday morning, the news broke that Fernando Alonso will not be in action during FP1 in Hungary. In the statement, the team already mentioned a muscle injury in Fernando’s back, which is why he decided to skip the session, with reserve driver Felipe Drugovich taking his place.
"It's a more muscular problem after Spa. There is, with the intensity of our calendar, there is never enough recovery time, even for sleep; sometimes, there's not enough recovery time because you have to travel. So I think that is one of the issues," Mike Krack stated to GPblog, among other outlets.
"So we elected to just increase the recovery time and drop out of FP1 which is normally the least important session and the plan is to have an engine and a car from that."
Asked what difference that one hour makes, Krack stated: ''I don't think it's the hours, it's probably more the lower amount of laps, you know, rather than the hours.'' Based on that, GPblog asked if the Grand Prix on Sunday isn't too long for Alonso.
''Yeah, the Grand Prix is long, yes. Yeah, but you know, we have obviously made some modifications to his sitting position. We have checked some stuff yesterday, you know, how to make him more comfortable for him. So we are quite confident there," concluded the Aston Martin's Chief Trackside Officer.
