While it has now been confirmed that Valtteri Bottas will be racing for Cadillac next season, he currently still serves as a reserve driver for the Mercedes team. But what will become of his duties for the German outfit now that it is known he will be driving for the American team next year?
After his exit from the Sauber team, Bottas agreed to a reserve role at Mercedes, which has seen him present at race weekends. In the meantime, he has signed a contract with Cadillac, where he will return as a full-time driver and no longer has to watch from the sidelines.
But what actually happens to his duties at Mercedes? On that question, Bottas answered in conversation with some media, including GPblog: “I mean, yeah, the works. Now, but like Graeme mentioned, I'm still contracted by Mercedes and still will be there at every race weekend as a reserve. That's obviously limiting the calendar days that I have available."
Bottas continued: “I don't want to go into details about how, when, and where, but obviously, we'll be involved with the team when it comes to the key decisions that need to be made before the first test."
GPblog previously reported that Bottas would continue his reserve role at Mercedes for the rest of the season.
The Finn returned to Mercedes this season, the team where he has achieved his successes. With the German team, Bottas stood on pole position a total of twenty times and clinched race victories on 10 occasions. He also won five constructor titles with the team and was the teammate of Lewis Hamilton when the Brit won his last four driver titles so far.
