Button: Piastri should accept Norris got the better of him

Jenson Button reckons that championship leader Oscar Piastri has to suck up getting leapfrogged by Lando Norris in the Singapore Grand Prix.

Norris and Piastri battled on the opening lap with the Aussie being forced to yield position to the Brit, who finished third. Piastri was livid with his team over the team’s radio, as he finished in fourth place.

However, 2009 world champion Button said Piastri has to accept that Norris was simply more aggressive.

He said: "It’s racing. He’s side by side. He had the little tap into the back of the Red Bull of Max Verstappen. And he’s got a bit of oversteer, which is quite unusual. I think it just shows how low the grip was. He didn’t purposefully try to push him in the wall.

"It’s not like he drove him into the wall. It’s not like he drove all the way to the wall hoping that Oscar would hit the wall or disappear. It was halfway through the corner, he had a snap of oversteer.

"If I was Oscar, I would be like, ‘ah, my teammate got the better of me there!’ And that’s it."

Piastri said he needed to see the TV replays before commenting but had made his frustration known over the team radio.

However, Sky Sports F1's Jamie Chadwick said Norris had no choice but to go for the gap.

She said: "I can see that from Oscar’s cockpit, he’s not seen the whole sequence of events, but it’s such low grip and Lando had to go for it. There was a gap there.

"He misjudged it a little bit and clipped the back of Max, which gave him a bit of front-wing damage and then sent him into Oscar.

"But Oscar came out of it in fourth. He didn’t drop back to 10th. It wasn’t actually that big contact in my opinion."
