Former Red Bull Racing driver David Coulthard believes that there is more coming from the 2025 F1 season. Despite trouble brewing at Red Bull and Oscar Piastri dominating the season, he still thinks they should have hope.
However, Coulthard does see that Piastri has the best chance and is the championship leader.
He said, "He leads the championship and therefore has the best chance of winning the title. He seems to have everything he needs for success. Four wins in eight races speak volumes,"
Speaking to German media Bild, he said, "But we are only a third of the way through the season. The pressure will increase with every Grand Prix, and the media and fans have higher and higher expectations."

Rivalry between Piastri and Verstappen

One of the key differences Coulthard noted was the fact that Verstappen is Red Bull's number one. Something that McLaren does not have.
"Oscar knows that with Verstappen, he has a rival who seems to get even better under pressure. With Lando, he has a rival within his own ranks.
Coulthard continues, "It's two things at once: Lando and Oscar push each other to the limit, but it's nice for Max that he has one less competitor than that duo. Although he doesn't need it at all."

Why Verstappen could just become champion

Despite McLaren being heavily in the lead, Coulthard said, "Max is a machine. He has the complete package and the experience of four world championships. He shows things you wouldn't think possible. In Japan, he defeated the McLarens, even though they were the favourite."
He continued, "This reminds me of my youth, watching Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell. Incredible things happened, just fantastic! Every time something like that happened, I jumped off the couch and screamed. That's what Max does for me now."
Regarding Ferrari, Coulthard answered whether they still have a championship chance.
"No, it doesn't look like it anymore."
