Jack Doohan has posted an Instagram story asking fans to stop harassing his family. This comes after an influx of hate following a spoof tweet regarding Franco Colapinto's crash during qualifying for the Imola Grand Prix. During his first qualifying session back on the grid, Colapinto crashed. Afterwards, a parody X account posted a tweet pretending that Mick Doohan (Jack's father) had made fun of Colapinto's crash.
Doohan receives hate from fans
Despite the fake tweet, some fans began harassing the Doohan family. The influx of hate toward them has gotten so bad that Jack Doohan has decided to speak out against it.
Colapinto replaced
Doohan at Alpine but for some fans, that wasn't enough.
Doohan posted to his story: "As you can clearly see, the story circulating above is completely false. It was fabricated by Argentine fans attempting to portray me and my family in a negative light. They edited the original content to make it appear as though my father posted it, which is entirely untrue."
"Please stop harassing my family. I didn't think I would have to get to this point."
Doohan followed up with, "The original source that posted and made the story. This type of content is so damaging."
A few minutes later he posted again with a correction.
"The source is not Argentine. However, multiple Argentine outlets falsely reported the fabricated image which triggered the online abuse on my family."
This is not the first time someone has had to speak out against online abuse, as Yuki Tsunoda has also had to speak out about the hate he has received lately.
Colapinto has spoken out against the fans sending hate, which was reposted by former F1 driver, Damon Hill.
Hill added, "No abuse in F1 please. It's not cool."
