Bernie Ecclestone, for many years the Formula 1 Supremo, has been up close with just about every legend that's come through the series: from Juan Manuel Fangio to Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, and Lewis Hamilton. In Ecclestone's view, however, there is one driver who stands above all those names: Max Verstappen.

Ecclestone sees 'no weak points' in Verstappen

"Max is the absolute pinnacle – the best I have ever encountered," says Ecclestone in an interview with F1-Insider. "I see no weak points in him. He doesn't complain, is tough on others and on himself, but in my eyes, always fair."
To Ecclestone, Verstappen is exactly what a champion should be: uncompromising, yet just. He understands why others might struggle with that. "It's logical that others see it differently. They are often excuses, because they themselves are not on his level and don't want to admit that they stand no chance against Max," says the 94-year-old Brit.
Verstappen has so far claimed two victories in the 2025 F1 season, both times while Red Bull was not considered a favorite. He's also secured three pole positions with spectacular qualifying tours. If he manages that in Monaco as well, there's a good chance he can add a third victory – although the two mandatory pit stops could complicate the strategy.
