Lando Norris and McLaren found the pace when it mattered to take a vital pole position at the Monaco Grand Prix, taking it ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and teammate Oscar Piastri. With the streets of the Principality always making overtaking an issue during Sunday's Grand Prix, Saturday's qualifying session is always the most important of the season.
Despite topping all three of the practice sessions at his home race, Leclerc could not make it work when it mattered the most, with Norris making the most of his two laps to get himself his first P1 since the Australian Grand Prix.
Piastri could not improve and stayed P4, while Lewis Hamilton was P4 ahead of Max Verstappen in fifth place.
Isack Hadjar was the best of the rest in P6, ahead of Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon in P7 and P8, respectively, while Liam Lawson and Alex Albon rounded out the top ten.
Carlos Sainz and Yuki Tsunoda were unable to get themselves up into the final session of qualifying, only able to set the 11th and 12th fastest times of Q2 to knock them out.
Mercedes had a very tough Saturday around the streets of Monte Carlo, with both drivers unable to set a time in Q2. Kimi Antonelli crashed out at the end of Q1, meaning he could not get out on the track for the second session, while a battery issue for George Russell meant his qualifying ended without him setting a lap, confining him to P14, just ahead of his teammate in P15.
