As always, let’s take a quick look at today’s two main news stories on Monday, August 18, while we await Formula 1’s return to the track after the summer break in ten days time.
Things have been quiet around Christian Horner. Apart from the odd holiday picture on Instagram, little has been heard from the former team boss of Max Verstappen.
Horner is otherwise keeping quiet, probably because there is still a need to reach a definitive agreement with Red Bull Racing about a possible severance package - although Horner is no longer statutory director of Red Bull Racing.
Perhaps Horner is already considering the next step in his career, with it being likely that he is looking at a new job in Formula 1. There might already be a latent interest in his services, according to Auto, Motor und Sport.
The German medium reports that there are rumours circulating in the F1 paddock that Cadillac is interested in Horner. However, they cannot confirm said rumour. Nevertheless, Cadillac already has a team boss in Graeme Lowdon. The Brit is currently building the American team, which will be on the F1 grid as of 2026.
Arturo Merzario, former Ferrari driver and Niki Lauda's life saver at Nurburgring, has given a candid take on Lewis Hamilton’s stint at Ferrari, suggesting the seven-time world champion is waiting for the right moment to make his move but nobody really wanted him at Maranello.
Despite high expectations, the seven-time world champion has failed to secure a podium, with his only notable result being a sprint race win and a pole position in China. The Scuderia’s car proved challenging to master, and integrating into the team’s dynamics took time.
Hamilton showed flashes of speed and experience, but consistency was lacking, highlighting the steep learning curve even for a driver of his caliber.
While results have been below expectations, the season offered insights into the challenges of adapting to Ferrari’s environment.
