Let’s take a look at the two main headlines from today, Sunday, August 10, in Formula 1, with the drivers enjoying their holidays during the summer break.
A setback for Red Bull Trackhouse Racing, the Austrian-backed team in various NASCAR series. This Sunday, Connor Zilisch could not participate with this car in the Sprint Cup race in Watkins Glen following a strange incident on Saturday.
The nineteen-year-old won the Xfinity race at the same circuit in Watkins Glen, but the joy was short-lived.
When getting out, Zilisch seemed to slip, falling hard. The American then lost consciousness. After he awoke, he was carried away by medical staff.
Zilisch was taken to the on-site medical centre in an ambulance, followed shortly by a trip to a local hospital.
Formula 1 has entered its annual summer break, giving the drivers a rare chance to enjoy some well-earned vacation time, before diving back into the second half of the season, which will see F1 compete at Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix.
Every year, all Formula 1 teams are required to shut down operations for a set period during the summer break. The rule was introduced to ensure that team staff get the opportunity to recharge during the relentless pace of the season.
Without it, the temptation to keep working in pursuit of better results would be hard to resist. That’s why the FIA strictly enforces these closures.
The summer break isn’t just a welcome pause for the crews — it’s equally valuable for the drivers. With 24 race weekends on the calendar this year, a bit of downtime is a blessing for the athletes and their families alike. They’re making the most of it. So, how exactly are the drivers spending their summer?
