Vitantonio Liuzzi has praised Max Verstappen’s masterful overtaking as a skill both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri could learn from.
“In every race, he puts them in trouble, and he manages to put everything in his favour.”- Vitantonio Liuzzi
The 45-year-old former Formula 1 driver reflecting on the abilities of the trio in a recent assessment, highlighted Verstappen’s ability to turn race situations in his favour. He also drew a parallel with Piastri’s performance at the 2025 Brazilian Grand Prix.
“I would like to see all the races again and study what Max does, because in every race he has put them in trouble and manages to turn everything in his favour. I would tell them to reanalyse, review, and study the rules thoroughly, especially regarding overtaking,” Liuzzi said on the Direct Racing podcast.

“Even Piastri in Brazil could have positioned himself better if there had been a Verstappen in the first corner. I’m not saying who’s right or wrong, but I’m just saying that Max, even while making or undergoing an overtake, thinks about how to position himself to avoid losing advantage,” he added.
When asked if Verstappen is the most precise driver in executing such moves, the FIA steward didn’t hold back:
“Max is a war machine in this. As a steward, I find it difficult with Max because when we have to manage an incident, he always manages to stay on the borderline of legality.”
“I’m not wrong because he also takes his penalties, but it makes things difficult for us because analysing incidents with him is tough—he always positions himself in a way that’s uncomfortable for us to evaluate, whereas very often, other drivers are clearer and easier to manage,” he concluded.
Earlier, Verstappen expressed little concern about the sweeping changes set to reshape Formula 1 in 2026.
The four-time world champion acknowledged the need to adjust to the demands of the new regulations but is largely unconcerned, particularly regarding changes to the power unit and other components set for overhaul this season.
