Isack Hadjar has been making headlines for all good things. However, despite his very strong performances with Racing Bulls, Sky Sports commentator David Croft believes the French Algerian is not yet ready to be Max Verstappen's Red Bull Racing teammate. Red Bull Racing's perennial cunnundrum - 'who can drive our cars, besides Max Verstappen? - is yet to be answered, as driver after driver since Daniel Ricciardo's exit from the Austrian outfit, has failed to come close to the Dutchman. Up and coming Racing Bulls talent, Hadjar, is racking up strong results at a canter. Could he be the answer Red Bull are so desperate to find?
“There is one driver who racing bulls think has a very similar style to Max Verstappen,” says Croft on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast. “ I don't think he's ready yet. And as I say, Yuki Tsunoda is going nowhere this season. But is Isack Hadjar the answer to their problems?”
Colleague and former F1 driver,
Karun Chandhok, strongly advises Hadjar to run as far away as possible from Red Bull Racing's second seat.
“If I was Isack Hadjar, I'd be trying to hang on to the Racing Bulls seat and then try and get myself a deal at Ferrari or Aston or anywhere but Red Bull.”Isack Hadjar in action during the race weekend in Saudi Arabia.
Could Hadjar get close
to Verstappen?
Under the assumption that Hadjar does indeed have the closest driving style to Max's, Croft thinks he could have an easier time of adapting to the very complex Red Bull car.
“But if Isack Hadjar is the closest thing to Max Verstappen, then he has the easier task of adapting to that car, which has been designed and developed more to Max's liking, and Red Bull say because Checo Perez was a bit reluctant in coming forward to give feedback last year. So therefore, the feedback was all Max's, therefore the car kind of went in a Max direction.”
Chandhok continues to disagree
with his colleague: “Over the winter, they told us that Liam Lawson was the closest to Max in style, and that's why they promoted him instead of Yuki, but I don't think that was right either,” said the F1 analyst.
