Lewis Hamilton has opened up on his new priorities amid his start to life at the Scuderia Ferrari team. The British driver, who made a seismic switch from the Mercedes team ahead of the commencement of the 2025 season, detailed how his focus has since developed beyond chasing Formula 1 greatness.

The 40-year-old, in an interview with Belgian outlet RTBF, stressed that his focus has shifted from being one of the greatest drivers in F1 to how he can contribute to the wider society.

“No, that's not my goal. That's not what I focus on. I never really talk about legacy; it's not my topic. I get asked that question a lot, but I don't think like that. When I was young, I used to say, ‘I want to be remembered as one of the best F1 drivers.’ Today, I think differently. There have been so many great drivers — every era has always had its number one — so it matters less to me now. What I focus on is what I can contribute concretely.”

Hamilton also touched on a few causes he is more passionate about away from the track. The seven-time world champion outlined how he has now shifted his desire to aid disadvantaged children through his various academies.

“I have a foundation focused on educating disadvantaged children. I want them to have access to science and engineering. I also work with associations against child malnutrition. There are still more than 100 million children without access to education. It's crazy when you think about all the money spent on wars. The world is going through a bad patch for now. I can't change everything, but I'm trying to have a positive impact.”

While Hamilton’s philanthropic efforts are undoubtedly commendable, the 40-year-old will also be hoping to experience some positive results on track with the Ferrari team. The multiple world champion endured another challenging outing in his last race with the team at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
