Lewis Hamilton spoke about what to expect from Ferrari heading into the United States Grand Prix week in Austin.
“We’re really limited with rear end compared to the guys who are taking the step and improving their rear”- Lewis Hamilton
Speaking after the race in Singapore, the seven-time world champion said: “We’re still fighting for fourth, fifth — sort of fourth and sixth, at best.
“We’re currently limited, we’re really limited with rear end compared to the guys who are taking the step and improving their rear.
“I don’t know really, it’s all about how we extract our qualifying and if we can get the most out of the car. But at the moment, we need to get 105% out of the car to be able to beat the guys ahead. So that’s going to be tough.”
Hamilton finally expressed his disappointment with the results for the entire team, which — despite a very challenging season so far — is still giving everything to climb back up as quickly as possible.
“I feel pain for all the team, catering to marketing, to the guys in the garage and engineers who show up every weekend and they really do give absolutely everything. But the car we have, it's just nuts.
“The level of the guys up ahead of us, particularly as they've had some upgrades and we can't match them. So we're on a knife edge trying to get as close as we can.”
His former Mercedes teammate has also reflected on the difficult season the seven-time world champion is enduring so far, with a partnership that has yet to take off despite the high expectations at the start of the year.
The Finn — who will return to Formula 1 next season as a full-time driver for the newly formed Cadillac team — took stock of the Briton’s first months at Maranello, expressing hope that he can soon return to his former glory.
