Liam Lawson shared two race weekends with Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing, gaining a firsthand look at the four-time world champion’s approach through detailed data analysis. In a recent interview with RacingNews365, Lawson revealed he continues to learn from Verstappen’s driving techniques.

At the start of the current season, Lawson was Verstappen’s teammate at Red Bull Racing. However, after just two races, his stint with the Austrian team came to an end. He swapped seats with Yuki Tsunoda and returned to Racing Bulls—formerly AlphaTauri—the very team where he made his F1 debut.

What did Lawson learn from Verstappen at Red Bull?

Asked if Lawson had time to learn anything from Verstappen, he responded: "I was very excited. I was very excited to have that opportunity to basically see everything that he was doing in detail.''

"Because I think the thing is, to be honest, we have so much data shared across teams at the moment.''

"It's very simple data, but as a driver, it's the main stuff that we're looking at, speed traces, you know, where somebody's braking, throttle places, gears, things like that that we use.''

The New Zealander continued: "We actually can see across the grid what people are doing. So I already compare with Max a lot to see how he's approaching corners and things like that."

''It was the detailed stuff that you wouldn't get across teams that I was excited to have, but in two weekends, it's very hard to take too much from that."

After a lesser period, in which Lawson scored no points at Red Bull, he seems to have picked up the thread again. Both in Belgium and in Hungary he finished in eighth place, ahead of teammate Isack Hadjar.

During the race at the Hungaroring, the New Zealander even finished ahead of Verstappen. Partly as a result, Lawson is currently in fourteenth place in the championship, with a total of twenty points.
