Liam Lawson has stated that his rivalry with Fernando Alonso is now something of the past as you can't hold 'grudges' in Formula 1. The
Racing Bulls driver has had run-ins with the two-time world champion ever since his promotion to VCARB in late 2024. The Kiwi was involved in a feud with Alonso at the United States Grand Prix in both the sprint and qualifying. This led to heated radio exchanges as well as a passionate conversation between the two in the pitlane.
In the Miami sprint race, Liam Lawson was penalised after colliding with Alonso, which led to the Spaniard's retirement.
At the F1 film screening on Wednesday in Monaco, the two were spotted chatting, and journalists were keen to uncover what was said between the pair.
Alonso is yet to score a point in the 2025 season
Lawson and Alonso are 'over' fierce battles
"I mean, we were talking about racing," the New Zealander stated in conversation with GPblog and other media present in the Monte Carlo paddock. "I think, you know, especially as guys in motorsport, you have things happen on track. If we held grudges, we'd never get over things. It's 24 races in a season, so I think for both of us we were probably past it going into the next day. Yeah, no we're over it."
Lawson, who hasn't had the easiest return to racing Bulls after his Red Bull demotion, has admitted that he is excited for his first
Monaco Grand Prix.
"It does, it's very exciting honestly, it's exciting because it's my first Monaco Grand Prix, it's exciting because it's been a really tough start to this year and now it's just another opportunity for us to have a good weekend and that's honestly just what I'm focused on."
Despite it being the third season Lawson has competed in, 2025 marks his first full year on the F1 grid.
