Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton and Andrea Kimi Antonelli were all knocked out in Q2 by Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll and Pierre Gasly.
As the second session drew to a close, Antonelli improved marginally from P10 to P8, as Hamilton and Leclerc failed to improve remaining in P7 and P6 respectively.
Isack Hadjar in his Racing Bulls car leap frogged them all to P5, as Carlos Sainz took P1 ahead of Piastri and Alex Albon placed his Williams, critically, ahead of the trio in question.
Pierre Gasly then took P6, with both Aston Martins of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso claiming the Frenchman's position for themselves.
In the end, Leclerc, Hamilton and Antonelli could not escape the elimination zone in P11, P12 and P13 respectively.
