Helmut Marko expressed his thoughts about the future of Max Verstappen and Red Bull Ford Powertrains in an interview with Krone Zeitung, touching on whether we should expect more drama around exit clauses next year and how involved the Dutchman is with the developments of Red Bull Racing.

According to Marko, Verstappen will remain part of Red Bull Racing in 2026, despite speculations about exit clauses in his contract. Will this become a major topic again next year?

"I hope not, as we anticipate being right at the forefront with Max again next season," says Marko, who clearly expects Red Bull to rebound in 2026 after a challenging season.

Marko on ‘promising’ engine project with Ford

According to Marko, preparations for the new technical regulations in 2026 are in full swing. Red Bull Powertrains is working closely with Ford, which will officially become the engine partner from next year.

"We've already made significant progress, and the numbers are promising," Marko comments on the progress.

"There are four factors that can be crucial: the combustion engine, the battery, the fuel, and energy recovery. We're also making good progress with the chassis."

Marko emphatically refers to 2014, when Mercedes started the hybrid era with a massive lead.

"I hope, at least, that 2014 will not repeat itself, when Mercedes suddenly had an extra 50 to 70 horsepower."

Ford, according to Marko, plays a key role in the engine project, particularly in logistical and technological aspects.

"Ford is a very important partner, being a large corporation, for example, they have much better access to materials," he explains.

"We also work very closely with Ford in terms of the turbo and the battery."

Verstappen remains motivated: ‘No frustration’

Meanwhile, Red Bull does not seem to have fully recovered its groove, but internally, the atmosphere remains positive. How does Verstappen stay motivated?

"By talking about GT3 or simracing. That immediately makes him in a better mood," Marko says.

"Recently we've had some bad luck, but we also have to take more risks than McLaren."

"Their car operates well with any type of tyre, on any circuit and under any temperature."

"Max is deeply involved in the process and knows very well that we are working hard. That's why he's not frustrated."
