Helmut Marko was satisfied with Max Verstappen's lap that earned the Dutchman his third pole position of the season.
Verstappen will start from P1 on Sunday, after he managed to marginally defeat Lando Norris and Friday's pole sitter Andrea Kimi Antonelli in Qualifying. Only 0.065 seconds separated the Dutchman and the Briton, while the rookie was only 0.002 seconds behind Norris as well.
Talking to ServusTV, the top advisor explained what made the difference in Saturday's second session. Despite a slight oversteer moment in the first corner, Verstappen still managed to set the fastest time.
“On Friday, he used to lose two to three tenths in the third sector, but now he has managed it so that the tyres still offer maximum grip in the last two corners. Right from the start, the car was optimal for him,” the Austrian began.
Verstappen did not score points during the Sprint after the Red Bull pit crew's mistake. Due to an unsafe release, he received a ten-second time penalty, which especially set him back in the standings after Norris and Oscar Piastri finished in P1 and P2 respectively. Entering the Grand Prix, Verstappen trails the Australian driver by 19 points.
