Max Verstappen will have his two hundredth Grand Prix for Red Bull Racing in Hungary. The Dutchman debuted for the team at the Spanish Grand Prix in 2016. In conversation with De Telegraaf, Helmut Marko looked back on the most beautiful moments with the Dutchman.
Although this weekend is going to be tough for Verstappen, he has had many great moments with Red Bull. He managed to achieve four world championships with the team, for instance.
Nevertheless, Marko had a different moment in mind as the most beautiful: "It's hard to pick something out, because we have so many great memories together. But definitely the rain races in Brazil. And the first victory with a Honda engine on the Red Bull Ring, in 2019."
However, it's not just the wins that Marko cherishes, it's mainly the relationship between Marko and Verstappen that is valued: “He is very loyal and has character.”
Marko was referring here to the time when he was under fire. “I will never forget that. You know with the Verstappens that they are straightforward and a handshake is enough. Figuratively speaking, if I see how much money is involved now, a contract is necessary," as Marko concluded.
The Hungarian Grand Prix is the last race before the summer break. Max Verstappen will start the race from an eighth place, teammate Yuki Tsunoda will start from a sixteenth place. Red Bull has been having difficulties all weekend. Verstappen complained a lot about the lack of grip. However, he did not see eye to eye with Marko after the qualifying.
