McLaren could clinch their world constructors' title this Sunday at the Singapore Grand Prix.
If results go their way, McLaren can secure their second consecutive constructors' title at the Marina Bay circuit.
Currently, the Woking-based team has 623 points in the standings, with Mercedes following in a distant second on 290 points, while last season's runner-up, Scuderia Ferrari, are in third place with 286 points, with seven rounds of the 2025 campaign remaining.
There are 346 points still up for grabs in the remaining rounds. McLaren now needs to leave the Singapore Grand Prix with a lead of over 303 points over Mercedes to be confirmed as the constructors' champion.
If Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris secure a one-two finish in Singapore, they will be champions no matter where the Mercedes and Ferrari drivers finish in the race. That is also the case if one of the drivers wins while the other completes the podium.
Finishing second and third, or even outside the podium places, could also prove to be enough, provided both the Mercedes and Ferrari teams do not outscore them by 31 points and 35 points, respectively.
McLaren could also clinch the title with a second–fourth finish, or even if one of its drivers clinches victory while the other records a DNF. However, this would require both Mercedes drivers and the Ferrari team to score very few points. Otherwise, such a scenario could see their constructors’ title celebration postponed to the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix proved to be one to forget for the McLaren team, as Oscar Piastri failed to finish in the points following a lap-one crash in Baku.
Lando Norris did not fare much better, as he could only muster a seventh-place finish after another pit-stop mishap left him stuck behind Yuki Tsunoda.
While McLaren had a forgettable outing, the Mercedes pair of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli picked up points, recording second-place and fourth-place finishes, respectively.
Both Ferrari drivers, however, finished behind Norris, with Lewis Hamilton eighth and Charles Leclerc following in P9.
Guaranteeing the constructors' champion could lift some pressure on the two teammates' battle for the drivers' title. However, as team principal Andrea Stella explained in Baku, McLaren will not go racing unregulated even if the constructors' title is secured.
"No. The approach to the Drivers’ title will not change. This is not dependent on the Constructors. The way we go racing is dependent on the racing principles, on the values that we embody as McLaren Racing," the Italian explained on Friday.
