The rules surrounding the amount of pitstops for the Monaco Grand Prix are welcomed by McLaren boss Andrea Stella, however, he does highlight that under certain conditions they may create 'awkward situations'. Are McLaren to adopt a different approach to Monaco in light of the recent - and mandatory - changes to the pitstop rules for the race in the principality.
"In fairness, you approach it in the same way, with the same tools, with the same kind of thought process compared to how you would approach an event," said Stella to media like GPblog at Imola.
"Let’s say simply, you just have more constraints, so you have to make some adaptations in terms of how you approach this," revealing a change in approach was in order.

Monaco GP pitstop rules, interesting with a potentially awkward twist
"After the race we had last year, a little bit of change is an interesting aspect," said Stella.
Following an uneventful race after Sergio Perez, Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg found themselves tangled in an early lap 1 crash on the run up to Massenet, which brought out a red flag that allowed drivers to switch to hard tyres early on and go to the finish sometimes lapping several seconds off the pace to keep their tyres alive until the chequeared flag.

"I welcome these kinds of changes. Actually, I think it will be trickier in wet conditions. So, for dry conditions, I think it's just interesting. For wet, it could create some situations that may be a little awkward. But we look forward to it."
