The summer break is in full swing in Formula 1. However, preparations are already underway for the next race on the F1 calendar: the Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort. Mercedes announced that a surprise is in the works for George Russell and Kimi Antonelli during this event.
The Mercedes team is currently third in the Constructors' Championship. The German squad is battling with Ferrari for the second spot in the championship.
Russell is having a particularly strong season and could easily end up third if he keeps up this form. The gap with Max Verstappen is currently just fifteen points in favor of the Dutchman.
After the summer break, Mercedes will try to give its drivers some extra motivation through a unique surprise. Formula 1 fans can send messages to the team's drivers and stand a chance to be featured on the walls of the garages in Zandvoort.
How do you get a chance to have your message displayed in Russell or Antonelli's garage? Test driver Valtteri Bottas explains in a post on the Mercedes Instagram channel.“Hey, I've got a surprise mission for you.
"We want to surprise Kimi, George, and the wider team in Zandvoort with some nice messages on the garage walls,” said the Finn. Below, you can watch the full video.
Although Bottas himself is still serving as a test driver this season and is frequently seen on Mercedes' social media channels, he will return to the grid next year.
During the Belgian Grand Prix, GPblog learned that Bottas had reached a verbal agreement on terms to drive for Cadillac in 2026.
