Oliver Bearman will start the Monaco Grand Prix from the back of the grid, having received a penalty for overtaking another driver during a red flag during a practice session. The weekend could get even worse for the Haas F1 driver, especially if the stewards decide to penalise a mistake made by his team.

Just after Bearman had driven out of his pit box, Haas realised that a fan was still attached to the car. Bearman stopped his car, after which a mechanic rushed over to remove the fan from the vehicle. This took place in an area that was completely prohibited.

Will the stewards issue a penalty?

The stewards might consider this to be an unsafe release and that work was done on the car in a place where it is not allowed. Surely, the FIA has seen it all, but it is not yet known whether action will be taken. If the incident leads to a penalty, Bearman would hope it falls on his team. For instance, a time penalty would make his race even more challenging than it already is.
A week ago in Imola, Bearman also had bad luck. Then, he lost his fastest time in qualifying, which prevented him from advancing to Q2. The reason was that the time was set while the red flag was waving.
