Can anyone other than McLaren fight for victory in the remaining of the season? Lando Norris’s response—after winning the Hungarian GP ahead of Oscar Piastri—was quite telling.
Once again in Hungary, McLaren made light work of their rivals, securing yet another 1-2 finish this season—despite Charles Leclerc putting up a strong fight.
The Monegasque driver claimed pole position in qualifying and showed impressive race pace until the final stint, when he began to suffer from technical issues.
Thanks to a different strategy compared to his teammate, Lando Norris—who hadn’t gotten off to an ideal start—found himself in a favorable position once he cleared the cars ahead.
From there, he managed his tyres perfectly and held off the Australian’s attacks.
But the real question is: will anyone be able to spoil McLaren’s party and challenge Norris and Piastri for victories from now until the end of the season?
When the question was put to the two McLaren drivers during the press conference reserved for the top three finishers after the Hungarian GP, Norris gave a short but clear answer: “I hope we dominate.”
Piastri, on the other hand, offered a few more words—though he fully agreed with his teammate’s view: ''I hope the same thing, but I think we will have competition at certain points through the year.''
''I don't know what happened to Charles in the second half of the race, but clearly something happened because he looked quite quick for the first half.''
Finally, the Aussie added: ''I think there are some tracks that other teams have historically been quite quick at, and we'll wait and see if that's the same this year.''
