The stewards have determined that Max Verstappen receives three penalty points for his incident with George Russell. Here is what that means for the defending world champion.
With these aforementioned three points, Verstappen now has 11 in total. In terms of the rules, once a driver gets 12 points on his license, they would receive a race ban, and after they can start with a clean state.
Recently, only a single driver was banned for this reason. Last season, Kevin Magnussen could not compete at the São Paulo Grand Prix that the Dutchman ended up winning in a great fashion.

When will Max Verstappen's penalty points expire?

Once penalty points are handed out, they will expire after a year. What hurts Verstappen further is that in the 2024 season, he received the points on his tally late.
The next time penalty points will disappear from the Dutchman's tally will be on 30 June. After, the rest will disappear in October, November and December.
As a result, now Verstappen has to be extra careful in the upcoming events so as to avoid a suspension.
