After starting from pole position at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri eventually crossed the finish line in third position. Already by the first corner combination, the Australian lost the lead to Max Verstappen. Piastri reflected to what happened in Imola answering a question from GPblog. Looking at the battle against the defending world champion last weekend, he said:
"I have reviewed it, I think just brake later. That was a pretty simple analysis," the
McLaren driver began in the Monaco paddock.
Still, Piastri also explained that Verstappen's pace was just as good as the McLarens had it in Imola.
"I think it would have been an interesting race regardless of how Turn 1 went or how Turn 2 went. I think Red Bull had at least as much pace as us on Sunday. Whether they were faster or not, I don't really know. I'm not really that bothered because it's such a small gap that we're talking about. Max would have been a threat regardless of what happened on the first lap. "
Piastri does not want to get carried away ahead of next Grand Prix
After the eventual outcome of the previous weekend, Piastri does not expect straightforward sessions in Monte-Carlo. "I think we thought that going into last weekend and it turned out pretty differently. So I don't know."

Similarly to George Russell, the McLaren driver also could see
Ferrari once again be strong in Monaco. The previous season, Piastri finished in second place in the Principality, behind Charles Leclerc. However, he is also confident that McLaren will be at the front.
"We might see Ferrari back in the mix here. They've always been strong here in the past few years, but I think we're confident in the pace that we've got. I think we've kind of looked through Imola and debriefed what we could have done better from a few fronts, but I think we are confident that we were still the team to beat this weekend and yes, confident that we can be quick," he concluded.
