Mercedes Technical Director James Allison hopes that updates brought to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix will "improve fortunes" for the German team.
The German team have made a positive start to the 2025 Formula 1 season, currently sitting P2 in the constructors' standings with 141 points, collecting four podiums in six Grands Prix.
George Russell has been the man to bring all the podium finishes for the German team in what has been an impressive start to the 2025 campaign, sitting P4 in the drivers' standings with 93 points, while teammate Kimi Antonelli sits in P6 with 48 points in his rookie season.

Mercedes looking to close the gap at the front

However, even with a positive start to 2025, Mercedes are still a way behind leaders McLaren, with the British team looking dominant so far. Sitting in 246 constructors' points, they lead the German team by 105 points.
However, with these updates coming to the iconic Imola circuit for the next Grand Prix weekend, Allison hopes that they can close the gap at the front.
"We have actually been bringing upgrades," the Technical Director started by saying in the Mercedes debrief.  "They're not particularly enormous or sexy, but they've been coming in a steady trickle.
"There's some that will be more obvious to the outside world in the next handful of races. With a bit of luck, they'll improve our fortunes.
"We're a quarter of the way through the season already. It's been coming at the teams hard and fast. It's quite difficult to get upgrades to the car when the races are coming at you in this sort of fashion," continued the Brit.
A race win is still being hunted by everyone at Mercedes at the moment, and there is a bit of hope that the chance to battle for a top step on the podiu might not be too far away.
"Hopefully, the ones that happen in the next two or three races will move the dial a bit for us. We will also continue to try to work on the tyre temperature in the races, which will also improve our fortunes," concluded Allison.
