Daniel Ricciardo could have been in a
Red Bull Racing car in 2021 and 2022 which would have allowed him to compete for the title. However, the Australian has set aside that missed opportunity and says he no longer thinks about the "what-if" scenario.
Teammate of Verstappen
In 2018, Ricciardo decided that enough was enough. He had completed five years at Red Bull and still hadn't gotten the car to compete for the world title. Red Bull made the switch to engines from Honda for 2019 and Ricciardo didn't quite trust that. In addition, people within the team were leaning more and more towards
Max Verstappen.
The Australian decided to take a different route. First, there was the switch to
Renault and last year he left for
McLaren. Although he is in the best of the rest fight with
McLaren, he saw Red Bull grab the world title in 2021 with Verstappen and also compete for the title as a team. In 2022, that will be the case again. However, Ricciardo says he does not think about what could have happened if he had stayed.
Bitter Ricciardo
''I think through doing it for so many years now, and just a bit of wisdom, maturity, and perspective, I don't beat myself up about it anymore,'' Ricciardo says at
ESPN about the fact that, as Verstappen's teammate, he might well have been competing for the world title. After all, he left precisely because he did not have the time to wait forever, but patience had just been rewarded.
''I know when I was 27 or 28 I would say in interviews, like, I'm running out of time, I'm not world champion yet. I was a bit bitter about it then. But I've kind of let that element go. In terms of just carrying that, I don't. I never wanted to carry an anger or bitterness, like 'oh man, I should have, could have, would have. It is what it is. You just waste time and energy sulking about that stuff'', concludes the McLaren driver.
He didn't really want to win anyway. So there, take that Red Bull
You'll see. I'm sure Williams needs a number one
It was 4 years ago LOL he's still talking about.
He ran from a fight like Horner said.
He can't beat Norris. He couldn't beat Max back in 2017 and 2018 for raw pace, he sure isn't beating Max now.
Ricciardo would not be getting the results Perez has been.
Red Bull never chose Verstappen or favoured him, but if they did they made the correct choice.
Are you actually insinuating that checo is a better driver than Danny Ric ?? ??? With your "Ricciardo would not be getting the results Perez has been." BS
RB did favour MV and it all started with the Baku incident oh and by the way if you look at the standings for 17 you will see Danny Ric above the golden booted boy, so as usual you are talking nonesense just to suit your own narrative
Dude, he was 18-19 back then, Riciardo had years of experience more at Red Bull.
Dude, I know how old he was but I wasn't the 1 that stated he beat Danny Ric just to suit my narrative. When indeed he didn't and the standings prove it.
Going by your theory about more experience and stuff you could say the same about Danny Ric when he joined RB and dethroned the reigning 4wdc albeit Danny was slightly older than 19, does that make DR a driving god or just another average driver? , but simpleton up there seems to think that checo is a better driver than Danny Ric ??. Checo is definitely a better wingman than Danny that's for sure ?
Oh, wait, I think we're both missing each others post, I agree with you on Perez, I think Riciardo is the beter driver, he just has a rough season start this year.
Danny shot himself in the foot while at RB .
He aspired to go to Ferrari due to his Italian roots.
Ferrari chose Lecler back then over Danny .
After that it's been downhill for him ever sinds .
The teams that were left for him weren't upto WC standards.
Danny, just Keep on Keeping on..
Your stil a joy to watch and a capable driver ????
Alpine is a works team. He should have stayed there instead of moving to McLaren. Factory teams have better chance of winning the titles than customer teams nowadays. He should have known it by now and that Renault suited to his style as well.
This guy needs to go to Indycar or something.
