The Formula 1 organisation is prepared for potential severe weather during tonight's Miami Grand Prix. The FIA stewards have released detailed procedures in case lightning jeopardises the safety of drivers, teams, and officials. Heavy rainfall delayed the start of the F1 drivers during yesterday's sprint race. Tonight, severe weather is threatening to strike again during the feature race. According to the FIA stewards' statement, several precautions have been taken. For example, the race can be immediately halted if lightning strikes near the circuit. This decision aligns with local public safety standards and aims to enable all attendees to take shelter at safe locations.
FIA announces possible restart procedure
As soon as the stewards have determined that it is safe enough to resume the race, a restart order will be published at least eighteen minutes in advance. Then, under the supervision of the FIA, the teams will be instructed to push their cars back to the fast lane in the order listed on the restart list. Any cars not included in this list are allowed to join at the back in the order in which they arrive.
The organisation closely monitors the weather situation and will provide updates through official channels. Earlier today, the
second race of the F1 Academy was also stopped and cancelled due to severe weather.
