Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are currently the two drivers battling for the 2025 World Championship. The pair, both driving for McLaren, are separated by just nine points, with Piastri holding a slim lead in the title race. Guenther Steiner expects that developments will continue before the championship is ultimately decided.

A few months ago, Steiner suggested that McLaren might consider designating Norris as the second driver. However, since then, the Brit has closed the gap on his teammate. In the last four races, Norris has won three times, while Piastri’s only victory in that period came at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Who is the favorite to win the F1 title: Norris or Piastri?

When Steiner is asked who he thinks is the favorite, he replied, “For me it's clearly Oscar Piastri. He's more consistent, calm, and makes fewer mistakes. Lando is also strong, but he still makes some small errors. Piastri has an advisor at his side, Mark Webber, who has also raced at the highest level. He knows how it goes and he was the teammate of Sebastian Vettel."

"He knows how to handle pressure and Piastri listens to him. Piastri is mentally very mature. And that makes him the favorite in this McLaren duel for me.

Steiner: 'Collision between McLarens inevitable'

The rivalry between Norris and Piastri took a turn in Canada, where the two first collided. Norris ran into the back of his teammate’s car, causing him to retire from the race. Since then, there have been several close calls. In Austria, Piastri locked up and nearly hit Norris, and a similar near-collision occurred in Hungary.

Guenther Steiner expects the title battle to intensify further: “That can happen at any moment. They've already nearly crashed a couple of times. Good fortune has often been a factor. And Lando simply makes too many small mistakes. In Canada, he tried to go for a gap that wasn't there. It was pure luck that Oscar didn't get a flat tire. That's why I say: it's almost inevitable that the two will eventually collide.
