Max Verstappen still needs to be cautious of a suspension in Austria. The other drivers are obviously aware of this situation too. During the second free practice, a striking moment occurred.
At the start of the second free practice session, Max Verstappen was on a cool-down lap while Lando Norris was pushing on a flying lap. Although the Dutchman left enough space on the right, Norris chose to squeeze past on the left, just barely, to get by Verstappen.
Verstappen was surprised to hear on the team radio to his brand new race-engineer for this weekend. "What's happening? He's just driving on the left," said the Red Bull Racing driver, utterly astonished.
The Dutchman is on the brink of a suspension, and penalty points can be awarded even during free practice sessions.
However, the stewards in Austria chose not to note or investigate the incident between Norris and Verstappen. As a result, Verstappen remains on eleven penalty points, with two set to expire on Monday.
