Laurent Mekies has thanked Racing Bulls online after his surprising promotion to CEO of Red Bull, following the sudden resignation of Christian Horner.
On Tuesday, Red Bull officially announced the immediate resignation of Christian Horner after twenty years of loyal service. The man set to fill his shoes is Laurent Mekies, who has experience in the sport, having worked at Toro Rosso, the FIA, Ferrari, and since 2024 as team principal of Racing Bulls.
This presents a significant challenge for Mekies, especially with the possible departure of Max Verstappen and an RB21 that still seems uncontrollable. However, Mekies has already shown great promise in leading the team from Faenza and hopes to steer Red Bull out of the troubled waters it currently finds itself in.
After being named the new CEO of the Milton Keynes team, Mekies took a moment to thank his former team with a video he posted on Instagram.
"What to say? A huge thank you from the bottom of my heart for the incredible support we have received from you in this last one and a half years of the adventure with Racing Bulls," he said.
"I don’t really want to feel like I’m leaving, obviously I remain in the family and am just crossing the street, but more importantly, I know the team will be in fantastic hands with Peter (Bayer), with Alan (Permane), with everyone who has made this team special. This team was and is especially special because of you. So a big thank you and see you very soon."
