Sergio 'Checo' Pérez will be working hard in the coming months to close the gap to
Max Verstappen at
Red Bull Racing. The Mexican hopes to be
"very successful" in the 2024 Formula One season. At least that's what he said in a
Red Bull Racing post on
X.
Perez alludes to a continuity in the most striking colour when describing his new helmet: "We always try to keep some natural colour, which is yellow, so at least you can recognise me."
It is no secret that Perez is very proud and attached to his Mexican origins. Whenever he gets the chance, he returns to his homeland to surround himself with his family and friends. "We went for the Mexican flag on top to make sure we represent our country, our traditions and our culture."
The Mexican is also aware of how significant perseverance is in
F1, and in case he ever forgets, he put a detail in the design that will remind him:
"The 'Never give up' is on the back because every time I put on my helmet I want see it and it's something unique to have. I really hope you like it and it brings us a lot of success," concluded Perez.
I wish he had less white, so we don't confuse him with Max.
The white won't matter as Max will be out front and not fighting the Alpines or the rest of the midfield so there won't be any confusion :) unless Max is having a really really bad day.
Yeah, i am really fussy about using white.
It can be good, but sometimes it can also just make something look bland.
I prefer to use it for accents, or as the base of the color scheme, but inbetween is difficult to pull off, in my opinion of course.
I always think back on the Jaguar F1 livery when i think of white used good.
It follows a pattern, it isn't popping up seemingly randomly.
Maybe if the helmet had one less white stripe on it (and i don't mean from the Mexican flag), it might've looked more consistent.
I don't really like Max's helmet either (i like Checo's more), chrome on white, i don't know, i preferred to have seen some black outlining on some decals to make the chrome stick out more, or make some white parts chrome.
I would like to see them having more freedom with their designs, or even bring their own helmets (tested and certified and after adding brand logos of course).
Honestly, I like the white on Max. I got used to it. for me, that's it. On the contrary, I don't like it when it has darker colors. Tastes differ.?
Hah, yeah no problem with that, tastes differ.
I much prefer darker, but i am also a sucker for matching things.
And i just don't like the white with the overall dark livery of the car, so in that aspect i think Checo's helmet matches a little better.
I like Max's helmet better than the one he had last year, and now that i think of it, i know that he's giving a big nod to his dad with the design, but this year's design is even closer to Jos' helmet.
So maybe they do have more freedom with their designs than i expected, and it just happens to be that i don't particularly love Max's style, haha.
But i just Googled Jos' helmet, and Max's new one look a LOT like it, so i do appreciate the gesture.
But i loved the helmet Max wore after he became champion again last year, the dark blue one with the gold, yellow and red accents on it.
It matched perfectly with the livery.
We hope the helmet works this year.
