Valtteri Bottas has described the season opening
Australian Grand Prix as his best moment of 2019 as he returned to form following a pretty horrible 2018. Bottas failed to win a race in his second year at Mercedes, but bounced back to take a superb win at
Albert Park.
The Finn qualified second, but got a better start than teammate Lewis Hamilton and raced away for a dominant victory, taking the championship lead for the first time in his career.
He would add three further race wins to his trophy cabinet but could not prevent Hamiton taking a sixth title, but he is still happy with that result in Melbourne.
According to
GPToday.net, Bottas said when asked for his best race:
"I will say in Australia for the first race of the year. That was after I had a difficult season a year earlier, and a win in the first race was exactly what I needed. "It was what I needed for my confidence and mindset. So it was a good time and definitely my highlight of the season."
